CENSUS COUNTS: STORIES FOR CHANGE

How many voices does it take to create real change?

The Census Counts: Stories for Change Campaign is a growing, downloadable collection of videos, quotes, and infographics that bring to life the impact of census participation through real people and real stories. A collaboration between the Census Counts campaign and NextDayBetter, the series features storytellers whose lived experiences show how the census connects to larger movements for justice, equality, and belonging.

The goal was simple: to share real stories that reduce fear and inspire communities to get counted.

Every voice in the series highlights how taking part in the census helps ensure that all communities receive the resources and representation they deserve.

As Lead Art Director at NextDayBetter, I led the expansion of the campaign’s visual storytelling and art direction across social media, focusing on quotes and infographics. Closely collaborating with illustrators of diverse styles, I maintained consistency in our visual language through meticulous creative direction, careful attention to detail, and hands-on refinement of artworks to achieve a cohesive look. I also worked closely with our Head of Copy to align visuals with messaging, ensuring every story we shared was clear, engaging, and emotionally resonant.

The result was a compelling, ready-to-use library of digital content featuring 16+ advocates, making outreach easier for organizers and helping them stay focused on one mission: getting every person counted.
